Thermotalkers is a student-led STEM outreach project empowering students & schools through accessible technology — in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy Jakarta, YSEALI, Sampoerna University, and University of Southampton Malaysia
What is ThermoTalkers? This project is part of the YSEALI SEEDs 2025 initiative , with support from the U.S. Embassy Jakarta and Biji-Biji Initiative. We aim to bridge the gap between STEM education and accessibility. We believe every student — regardless of ability — deserves engaging, hands-on learning.
Therefore, we intend to create inclusive STEM experiences that spark curiosity, build skills, and leave students feeling empowered.
The Thermotalker is a low-cost, Arduino-based thermometer equipped with a text-to-speech system. Originally designed for visually impaired students, it also serves as a powerful tool to teach electronics, accessibility, and design thinking.
Our interactive workshops provide students with hands-on STEM experiences while teaching them about accessibility in technology. Each session includes:
Students learning electronics in our workshop
Workshop highlights: Designing the casing
Students testing their ThermoTalker devices
